Your child will be taking the MAP test again this Spring. Like third grade, he/she will be tested in the areas of Communication Arts and Math.
We have already taken STAR Math, STAR Reading, Acuity Language Arts, and Acuity Math. Students have set goals for their second quarter STAR assessments and will be setting Acuity goals once I have graded the written portions of Acuity.
Your child keeps track of their data in their Data Binders.
Attendance
Regular attendance and punctuality are important. When a child is tardy, absent, or leaves school early, it will be noted on his/her report card. If your child is going to be absent, please call our office (359-4370) before school so we are assured of your child’s safety. If you forget to call, one of our administrative assistants will call to verify the absence.
Upon reaching the tenth, fifteenth, and twentieth days of absence, a district letter will be sent to the parents or guardians of the student.
Birthday Treats
To protect the health and safety of our students, students may bring pre-packaged treats to school to share with classmates in recognition of birthdays and other celebrations. Homemade treats will not be distributed to students in the Park Hill School District. Due to allergies and other food intolerances, please consult with your classroom teacher before the pre-packaged treats are brought to school. As a healthier alternative, Park Hill Food Service offers a variety of nutritious treats that may be purchased and delivered to your child’s classroom.
Breakfast and Lunch Information
Breakfast and lunch are served daily. To purchase meals, Park Hill
offers automated prepayments to each child’s meal account via the internet.
Money can be applied to a child’s food service account so children will not
need to carry cash to school each day. Parents can log on to the electronic
system to add funds to their child’s meal account. The child’s MealPay account
number is necessary. If you do not have this number:
please call 816-359-4090.

Classroom Rules
In order to create a safe, happy classroom
environment, fourth grade students learn to follow four classroom rights. We will discuss the responsibilities of
fourth graders that go along with each right throughout the school year.
You have the right to a safe environment. You have the right to be heard and respected.
You have the right to a quality education.
You have the right to use school equipment, books, and materials.
You have the right to a bully-free environment.
If a child is disrupting the learning
environment, the following actions are taken:
· Warning-each
student will receive two “Oops” Tickets per day. · Removal from group to seat or to “safe seat” once both “Oops” Tickets are relinquished.
· Removal from classroom to a “safe” place to get control (buddy classroom).
· Recovery Room (discuss actions and develop a plan for success with Mrs. Frayer, Recovery Room Interventionist).
· A student may need to fill out a think sheet if the teacher deems necessary. Think sheets will be sent home to be signed by a parent and should be returned the next day.
Whole Group Incentive Program
Students should be on their best behavior in the classroom, as well as in special classes, in the hallway, the lunchroom, at recess and with a substitute. Each time the class receives a compliment from another teacher in the building they will earn a “warm fuzzy.” When the Warm Fuzzy Jar is filled, students will earn a free indoor recess. It is important for students to work together and enjoy the success of their good work as a team.
Health Room Medication
Elementary health rooms are staffed by Health Room Aides. Each
Health Room Aide is supervised by a registered nurse. All non-prescription,
over-the-counter medication must be sent in the original container with a
written request by the parent or physician.

Home Learning
School Hours
Learning takes place in the classroom and at home. I may assign additional learning opportunities to students on an individual basis when extra practice on a skill is needed or for enrichment. Fourth graders benefit immensely from reading and practicing math facts each day. Work completed at home is not for the purpose of assessing learning; students will receive my feedback on all work completed in and outside of school. Due dates will be set to help with time management. Be sure to check your child's take home folder or planner for any home learning activities.

Water Bottles
Research shows that a hydrated
brain learns better, so I will allow students to bring a water bottle to
school. If a water bottle becomes too
distracting, I will ask the student to keep it in their backpack. No juice or flavored waters please.
